Nature ID App Review

 Nature App Review

In this assignment you are going to be downloading a nature app onto your (or your partner's device) and testing it out. Then when you return to class, you are going to write a review on your blog.

Instructions

1. Download one of the following nature identification apps onto your or your partner's device (or if you have a favorite, feel free to use your own):

inaturalist, Seek by inaturalist, merlin (bird id app), picture insect (insect id app), mushroom identify, nature notes

2. Go with your class to your nature spot and experiment with your apps. This might involve taking pictures, taking audio recordings, flipping over some logs to look for insects, digging through the underbrush to find some mushrooms etc.

3. How many species of plant/bird/insect/mushroom etc. can you identify (if your app is an id app).

4. When you are back in class, write a short review of the app on your blog. Use the following prompts to guide your review. Include and think about how you are using visuals in your review and use hyperlinks!  You can see a great example of a nature app review here

Guiding Prompts:

What was your app called?

What was the purpose of your app?

How do you use your app?

How easy was your app to use?

Was your app accurate (to your knowledge)?

Did your app require internet/cellular connection?

What didn't you like about your app?

Who would you recommend this app to?

What would you rate it out of 4 stars?

Suggestion: Think about what kind of voice are you using in your writing. Are you scientific and analytical with your review? Are you going to tell stories and to make your review feel more personal? Do you want your blog to be funny with lots of humor? Start thinking about how you want your blog to sound as you move forward. How does your voice come through your writing?
