Project Explanation

What do you care about? It’s time to put your voice as a writer out into the world. You are about to become a blogger. Choose a topic you are interested in, one about which you have something to share and about which you can’t wait to learn more. Your blog will be your own. You will write the content, create the images, decide what to embed and link.

Two points of caution: It is important not to reveal ANY personal info on your blog. No one reading it should have any idea where you live or be able to find you. Please keep in mind that this is a part of your schoolwork. All blog content, whether written by you or linked or embedded, should be appropriate.

The goal of this project is for you to find a subject you will truly enjoy blogging about, and then test drive this platform as effectively as possible. Many people make their living blogging, and many more are part of businesses that have a website or blog as a key component of their business plan. Who knows? This could be the start of your future career.

                                                 Setting Up Your Own Blog

Think about what you want your blog to be about. Pick something you are interested in and are knowledgeable about and will have fun exploring.

1. Set up a Gmail account or sign in to yours.

2. Go to blogger.com

3. Choose the type of profile you want to use and then click “Create New Blog.”

4. Put in a title and web address that fit the topic you’ve selected. Choose one of the “simple” blog templates

to begin with. Then click to create your new blog.

5. Click “no thanks” when you see the offer to connect a domain name.

6. You can now click “view blog” on the left, or “new post” in the center.

7. From within “view blog” you can always click “new post” in the upper right hand corner, or “design” to adjust

the look of your blog. We’ll get into this more as we go along.

8. When you have your blogs web url, give it to the teacher.

Next go to your profile and start setting it up. Think about what information you want out on the internet!

By default your blog is not visible to search engines but everything you put out here is still on the internet.

Think about what you want the world to know.

Once your blog is all set up, go to the sidebar of this blog and find a list of recommended blogs to check out.

Do some exploring and pay attention to how these blogs are constructed. How is information presented?

How do they link to other parts of the internet and other forms of media?
